Youth Ministry Helper

Photo night

Split into groups of 4-5 (make sure there's one leader in each group), and give each group a camera.

Draw up a list of things / objects / situations they need to try to capture on film.  Be creative with the list - make sure you include some simple tasks, but also some tricky things to find (or do).  Allocate points to each item depending on the difficuty.

For example:

PointsPhoto of...
10
A red four wheel drive
20
Members of your group in a phonebox
20
A members of your group on a swing
30
A member of your group shaking hands with an old man
5
A McDonalds sign
10
A cat
5
A stop sign
etc

Be sure to set a time limit when people need to meet back and then share the photos.

Other variations include using a video cameras (rather than still photos)

To get instant results use a POLAROID camera & try to include a child from your group in every photo---it will make for a cute bulletin board! Example: Instead of just a stop sign, make it a stop sign with a youth member next to it.
                        FUN, FUN, FUN!

We ran a night like this last month and added all the photos to our web site... it was great seeing what all the other groups got up to as well...

We had a brainstorm for creative ideas - here's a few of ours:

                        A member (or several members):
                        - going through McDonalds drive-thru on a bike
                        - sitting on Santa Clause's knee (only really works at Christmas time :)
                        - with someone famous
                        - dressed as a super hero (undies must be on outside)
                        - with the Youth Minister's girl/boyfriend or husband/wife
                        - on a Ferris Wheel
                        - with a furry animal (not a cat or a dog)
                        - with someone from another country (get passport in photo for proof)

It's also worth adding somewhere that groups shouldn't do anything illegal in order to get the photos!
