Game of the Month

The Encouragement game
It's not often that a Youth Group Game can be life changing, but I can safely say this about this game. Highly recommended, this is the type of activity that can make a positive difference in young people's lives.

Build a bridge

This game works best for boys, but that said, I'm sure there are girls that would love this type of thing.

The idea is simple - split your group into teams of 3 or 4, and give each team a "Building Kit" (explained below) and a bowl of water.  Each group has 30 minutes to build a bridge to span across a bowl of water.

At the end of 30 minutes, each group has to demonstrate their bridge.  You then test it for strength by adding pebbles one at a time, until the bridge collapses.  The team with the strongest bridge wins!

Building Kit

The Building Kit is a shoebox with a variety of building materials.  For example:

Make sure each group has the same amount of materials, just to keep things fair.

I don't see any reason why only boys (and some girls) would like to build a bridge. Lets not be sexist - all kids have the ability to enjoy a fun building activity.

Sorry, but I have no idea what "bluetack" is. Can anyone enlighten me?

We have it in Canada. It's like putty

@Bruce, it is also called mack tack, sticky tack, and probably other things. It is a sticky putty that is used to stick posters and stuff to the wall without damaging the wall in any way (unlike staples, nails, etc.)

I love the idea of this, and I'm very much female

I'm with you on that too Ashley. But I can understand why boys esp will get into it. When I have them do "quiet games", they usually have a hard time sitting still--I doubt this will one of those activities b/c of the creativity in keeping the mind busy!! :D
